Enoshima Electric Railway vs Bianchi Road Bike!
On this ride, I decided to chase the iconic Enoden train from Shichirigahama Beach along the seafront and through Koshigoe High Street — one of my favourite stretches of coastal Kanagawa.
It's a wonderful place to cycle, with the railway running alongside the road, beautiful coastal scenery and plenty of opportunities to spot the distinctive Enoden trains.
When My Bianchi Became a Fixie
Midway through the ride, my rear derailleur cable snapped just as the train pulled away from the station.
That left me stuck in a high gear, desperately trying to keep pace with the train.
Chasing a Japanese train on what effectively became a fixed-gear bicycle was not the plan!
My next stop was the Bianchi Store in Machida to get the cable repaired.

Exploring the Enoden Railway
The Enoshima Electric Railway, commonly known as the Enoden, connects Kamakura and Fujisawa, passing through residential streets and alongside the beautiful Shonan coastline.
It's a popular railway with visitors, photographers and rail enthusiasts, particularly around Shichirigahama and Koshigoe.

Travel tip: If possible, sit on the left-hand side of the train when travelling from Kamakura towards Enoshima for the sea views. Standing near the doors can be equally rewarding.
