Lukes Way of Looking by Nadia Wheatley and Matt Ottley
Luke’s Way of Looking – Multi-Modal Resource
This video analysis and companion resource for Luke’s Way of Looking by Nadia Wheatley and Matt Ottley was created by Tim of The Magic Crayons. I'm proud to share that it is now the exemplar video for the Graduate Diploma in Teaching – EDX2170 module at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).
If you have technical questions about the video itself, feel free to post them on YouTube. For assignment-specific inquiries, please use the official USQ course forums.

Classroom Application
Although the book is recommended for Years 1 and 2, it works beautifully with students aged 5–10 and beyond. I currently use it at an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, and it's a powerful provocation for the units of inquiry: How We Express Ourselves and Who We Are.
You can assign this video as flipped classroom homework or play it in class as an introduction to deeper discussions.
Sample Inquiry Questions
- Does everyone look at the world in the same way?
- Do we all see the same thing when we look?
- What do people think of you?
- How do you feel about that?
