The Great Wave – 5-Layer Laser Cut Wall Art
This stunning piece is a layered laser cut reimagining of Hokusai’s iconic “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”. Built from seven precision-cut layers of MDF, each individually painted and assembled by hand, it brings depth and modern craftsmanship to a timeless Japanese masterpiece.
- Layers: 5 layers of 3mm MDF, laser cut and assembled for a 3D effect
- Size: 240 mm x 200 mm x 21 mm (including all layers)
- Finish: Each layer is painted and sealed for durability
- Display: Includes sawtooth hook for wall hanging and stand for desktop display
Handcrafted in Kanagawa, Japan, using an xTool S1 professional laser cutter. I take care in every step of the process—from cutting to hand painting and final assembly—to ensure each piece is rich in detail and built to last.
About the Artwork:
“The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by Katsushika Hokusai is one of the most recognized works of Japanese art. Originally published in the 1830s as part of his Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, the print shows a towering wave about to crash over fishing boats, with Mount Fuji in the background.
This artwork was created right here in Kanagawa, the same region where I live and make my pieces—bringing a full-circle connection between location, artist, and craft.
This wall art makes a meaningful gift for lovers of Japanese culture, wood art, or traditional design with a modern twist.
