60 km/h Descent of Mt Takao – 360° Cycling Video Experience
Join me for a winter cycling adventure around Mt Takao in western Tokyo, Japan.
With clear blue skies, cold mountain air and icy patches on the roads, this was a memorable ride on my road bike.
The highlight of the video is the descent, where I reached approximately 60 km/h.
Descending Mt Takao
Mt Takao and the surrounding mountains offer some wonderful cycling routes, with winding roads, forest scenery and plenty of climbing.
After the effort of riding uphill, the descent is always something to look forward to. On this occasion, however, the winter conditions made it particularly important to watch the road surface.
The combination of sunshine and icy roads was a reminder that mountain conditions can be very different from those in central Tokyo.
Even on a beautiful day, shaded corners can remain slippery, so winter descents require extra care.
