      Your map is precision laser-cut from solid wood and assembled by Mr. Tim in Kanagawa, Japan.
    4. Ready to display
      Your finished map arrives framed, ready to hang, with a custom-engraved wooden medal included.

    This handcrafted wooden map captures the Kyoto Marathon as a refined piece of wall art and a meaningful post-race keepsake. The marathon route is highlighted in orange, with engraved pin-style flags marking the start and finish, allowing the full journey of race day to be read instantly.

    A marathon through the cultural heart of Kyoto

    Unlike most city marathons, the Kyoto Marathon is known for passing through historic districts and alongside some of the city’s most recognisable cultural landmarks. This map celebrates that unique character, presenting Kyoto first as a city shaped by rivers, hills, and centuries of history — with the marathon route woven naturally through it.

    Layered wooden map design

    • Marathon route layer – the full course is shown as a clean orange line crossing the city.
    • Start & finish markers – engraved flag pins clearly identify the beginning and end of the race.
    • Water layer (sprayed blue gradient) – rivers flowing through Kyoto are painted by hand, using a sprayed gradient that shifts from deep blue to a lighter, foamy blue.
    • Terrain contours (engraved) – subtle engraved contour lines show the hills that flank the city, adding depth without visual clutter.
    • Road network layer – primary streets and incoming expressways provide scale and context while keeping the map calm and readable.

    Cultural landmarks along the route

    The Kyoto Marathon route passes close to many of the city’s best-known sites, including Fushimi Inari Taisha, Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), Ginkaku-ji (the Silver Pavilion), and Kiyomizu-dera.
