Your map can be created from your own recorded activity or from a published walking or hiking route. A GPX file is useful, but it is not essential.

Your Walking or Hiking Route

Your route forms the centrepiece of the artwork. It is created as a distinctive orange layer, standing out clearly against the surrounding landscape and road network.

An elevation profile can also be incorporated into the design, showing the climbs and descents encountered along the journey. This is particularly effective for mountain hikes, long-distance trails and routes where the terrain was an important part of the experience.

Depending on the location and scale, the engraved map can include contour lines, smaller roads and streets, railway lines, coastlines, lakes, rivers and other geographic features that give the landscape its individual character.

Small engraved wooden flag pins can also be used to mark the start, finish or other important locations along your journey.

Personalisation

Your map can include details such as:

• Walker or hiker name
• Trail, walk or challenge name
• Location and date
• Distance
• Elevation gain
• Walking or hiking time
• Number of days
• Maximum elevation
• Other meaningful journey statistics
• Optional short dedication or personal message

You don't need to include every detail. Your map can be kept simple or personalised with additional information depending on the story you would like it to tell.

Providing Your Route

If you recorded your walk or hike, you can provide:

• A link to your Strava or other activity
• A GPX or other compatible route file
• A screenshot or link showing the route

If your journey followed a published trail, walking route, pilgrimage or organised event, simply send me the route name and details. Where suitable route information is publicly available, I can use this to create your map.

For journeys where no single complete route file exists, you can also send me maps, screenshots or information showing the different sections of your journey. I can often combine these into a single route for your artwork.
