Floating Torii Gate – Wood Wall Art
Celebrate an enduring symbol of Japan with this handcrafted layered wood artwork featuring a vermilion torii gate rising from the sea beneath drifting clouds. Each piece is precision laser-cut from natural basswood, hand-painted so the wood grain remains visible, and carefully assembled to create a serene three-dimensional scene.
- Iconic torii gate standing in the water
- Calm ocean horizon framed in a circular window
- Layered cloud forms against a warm sky
Every layer is painted with water-based matte color to preserve the look of real wood, then sealed with a clear lacquer coat for lasting protection. Comes ready to display with a sawtooth wall hanger and a fold-out stand. Choose a black or white frame to suit your space.

About the Scene
This piece is inspired by Japan’s celebrated “floating torii,” most famously seen at Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island near Hiroshima. At high tide the gate appears to rise from the sea, marking the passage from the everyday world into a sacred space. The tranquil palette and circular composition echo the calm of the Seto Inland Sea and the minimalist grace of traditional Japanese design.
Perfect For
Japan lovers, travelers, and admirers of Japanese culture seeking a meaningful, handcrafted décor piece or a thoughtful gift.
