Celebrating Students with Instant Photos
This is one of those classroom tools that students absolutely love — and one I reach for often.
When a student has gone above and beyond — reading an exceptional number of books, helping others, taking responsibility in the library, or simply being a consistently positive presence — I like to make that effort visible.
I ask a friend to take the photo, write a short message of praise, and hand it over straight away. That instant moment of recognition matters. Students keep the photos, pin them up, and remember why they earned them.
Unsurprisingly, students quickly find their own creative uses too — favourite teachers, administrators, book recommendations, or snapshots tied to what they’re currently reading.

It’s a small thing, but it creates a positive culture around effort, reading, and kindness — and that’s always worth investing in.
