Shibuya Scramble Crossing at night 360

Cycling in Japan. My camera gear, Bianchi bike accessories, and electronics

Shibuya Scramble Crossing at night filmed with Insta360

Last updated: November 10, 2023

Everything listed below is gear I personally use to record my cycling videos in Japan — mainly around Tokyo and Kanagawa. Nothing here is theoretical. If it’s listed, it’s been used on real rides, in real weather, for hours at a time.

If you have questions about any of this gear, feel free to ask in the comments. And if there’s somewhere in Tokyo or Kanagawa you’d like me to take my cameras — let me know.

🎥 Camera Gear — Insta360

The Insta360 ONE X2 completely changed how I film cycling. It captures moments I would never get with a traditional action camera.

I press record when I leave home, ride for 2–5 hours, and press stop when I return. No stopping. No fiddling. No missed moments.

Yes, the GoPro has better colours and clarity — but the Insta360 captures the ride.

Highly recommended.

Insta360 Mounts & Accessories

The magic of Insta360 is the mounts — especially the ones that become “invisible” in post.

  • Third-Person / Invisible Handlebar Mount (Amazon)
Insta360 Studio removes the mount automatically.
  • Invisible Selfie Stick (Amazon)

I bought the X2 after the X3 was released. I didn’t see enough real-world benefit to justify upgrading — and I’m still very happy with the results.

Camera Gear — GoPro

I still use a GoPro — just for different situations.

  • GoPro Hero 10 (Amazon)
I keep this specifically because it has built-in GPS. (Hero 12 removed GPS, which matters if you use telemetry overlays.)
  • GoPro Media Mod (Amazon)
    Excellent built-in wind protection.
  • Mount: KOM Quick-Release Computer / GoPro Mount (Review)

GoPro settings: 4K · 60fps · Linear+ · Media Mod mic

Bike Gear

  • Bike: Bianchi Infinito XE (endurance geometry)
  • Water Bottle Cages (Amazon)
Chosen specifically for Japanese vending-machine bottles.
  • Bicycle Pump: Samuriding SIG-FP006 (Amazon)
  • Bicycle Cover: Créer 210D–300D (Amazon)

Bike Electronics

  • Rear Light: ENFITNIX Cubelite II (Amazon)
  • Front Light: TOWILD (Amazon)
  • Heart Rate Monitor: COOSPO Bluetooth (Amazon)
  • Bike Computer: Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM (Amazon)
  • Power Meter: Favero Assioma Duo (Amazon)

Watch

  • Casio G-Shock GA-B2100 (Japan Release) (Amazon)
