Recording and Editing Gear To Make Cycling Videos. Gear List: July 2024

Last updated: January 2026
This is the video recording kit I currently take out on my bike, plus a few essential items from my home editing setup. My buying rule is simple: the camera must record all day with minimal effort so I can enjoy the ride.
Recording in 360° means I decide what to show later — me, the road, or both. I’ve found that while a GoPro delivers higher image quality, it often misses the moments I actually want. This setup doesn’t.

Bike-Mounted Camera Gear
Insta360 Camera X2
Still my favourite cycling camera. I’ve yet to be convinced the X4 would be a meaningful upgrade for how I ride and film. I press record when I leave home and stop it when I return — sometimes 2–5 hours later.
Insta360 Bicycle Mount
Despite appearances, this won’t accept a GoPro directly. I skip the carbon rod and use an invisible stick instead, which gives me more flexible angles on and off the bike.
Insta360 GPS Action Remote
Bought out of necessity (and frustration). The newer Insta360 remotes don’t support the X2. I mainly use this so I don’t need my phone powered on while recording.
GORIX (B14) Top Tube Bag
Holds spare camera batteries and my iPhone. Lives on the bike permanently.
Studio & Editing Gear
Sennheiser HD 25 Headphones
Exceptionally comfortable and sound fantastic for long editing sessions. Worth every yen.
Mug Warmer
An underrated essential. I liked mine so much I bought three more as gifts. Always-hot coffee while editing = happiness.
